Synopsis: The Comedy of Wizards is about identical twin brother wizards with the same name and their identical twin servants who also have the same name on a quest to find power, love, and each other after being separated at sea over 100 years ago and growing up in waring cities. Got it? Good.
Content warning: wizards, orcs, cartoonish violence, sudden breaks with reality, questionable decisions related to Shakespearean interpretation, errant magic spells, and ursine interlopers.
Kathleen Armenti (Egeon) is a singer, actor, improviser and improv coach with magical powers. She can be seen performing everything Friday night with Premiere: the Improvised Musical at The Magnet Theater. Samara Breger (Gwenifer) is a writer and performer from Sleepy Hollow, New York. Her vampire Gothic, A LONG TIME DEAD, was named “the best Sapphic vampire book since...Carmilla” by the New York Times, as well as one of the best romances of 2023. With her improv teams, Kittyhawk and The Night Crew, she performs musical improv in NYC and around the country at comedy festivals. She lives in a little house with her wife and dog, both of whom are big fans of her work.
In 2010, Timothy Carmello (Dave of Ephesus) took his talents to NYC and over the past fifteen years his work appeared at: Dixon Place, The Tank Theater, Brick Theater, Sophie’s At Broadway, The Culture Project, Columbia University and QED. From 2012-2016, he trained extensively with Anne Bogart’s SITI Company, and even gained admission to their 2014 Conservatory Program. This past January, after a seven year hiatus,Timothy returned to the NYC theatrical scene in the Chain Theater’s Winter Short Play Festival in which he appeared in The Tragedy of Prohibition, Brought to you by Beamers Beer. Jordan Elman (Generic Townsperson) is an actor, voice over artist, improviser, musician, puppeteer and comedian based in NYC. He is currently an MFA candidate with The Actors Studio Drama School at Pace University (Class of 2027). Jordan earned his BA in Theatre and Psychology at Muhlenberg College, completed the Magnet Theater’s Improv Training Program in NYC and studied Commedia dell’arte at L’accademia dell’arte in Arezzo, Italy. Judith Ingber (Antipholus of Syracuse) (she/they) is a local and regional theatre performer based in Brooklyn, NY whose heart lies in new musical development. Most recently seen in a theatre with only one bathroom, Judith Ingber can’t wait to bring The Magic this holiday season! Previous performance spaces with more bathrooms include: Olney Theatre, Theatre J, and NYMF. She most notably originated the role of Sonia in “Life Sucks” by Aaron Posner. Dominic F. Russo (Dave of Syracuse) is excited to do his second musical with Stoph and Toby! He has also been seen in Gruff (The Pit and Vital Theatre), The Play That Goes Wrong (Portland Stage) and Jacob Marley’s Christmas Carol (Mile Square Theater). Becca Schneider (Antipholus of Ephesus) (she/her) is an NYC-based actor and producer. Her solo show TRICH was the top-selling play at the 2021 United Solo Theatre Festival, winning both the Best Actress and Audience Choice Awards. Chris Evan Simpson (Uruk) (he/him) is an actor and improvisor hailing from the great state of Connecticut. He’s been performing musical improv in NYC for the last 15 years. Currently, you can catch him every Thursday night at the Magnet Theater with his house team Mona Lisa! He has performed around NYC with the shows Baby Wants Candy, Shamilton, and Jukebox: Improvised Karaoke. Favorite theater credits include ‘Puffs, or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic’ (New World Stages), ‘Wicked Frozen’ (St. Luke’s Theater), and ‘Peter, Who?” (NYMF). Bradley Adam Stein (Alisone) (They/Them) also lovingly known as Brashley, recently originated the role of Colin Crosby in the new musical Senior Class. Next up you can see them starring as Gabe in Next to Normal at Baltimore’s Iron Crow Theatre. Other credits include Jamie in Everybody’s Talking About Jamie and The Rocky Horror Show. Natalie Sullivan (Lord High Secretary Executioner) is an actor, musical improviser, and clown currently based in NYC. She has performed on stages across NYC, LA, and in festivals worldwide, including a sold-out run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Favorite credits include Les Millenniables (Jean Valjean), Wicked Frozen, Star Wars: The Farce Awakens (Rey), The Hungry Hungry Games (Katniss), and A Bad Dream on Elm Avenue (Tina).
Stoph Scheer’s (Book and Lyrics) original work has been described as “endlessly inventive” by The New York Times. The New York Post has accused her of being Banksy. She is not Banksy. But she is the first trans woman to ever puppeteer on Broadway, and one of the first trans women to ever puppeteer on American television.
Toby Singer (Music and Lyrics) is a Brooklyn-based composer and musician working at the juncture of music and theater. Born in Michigan, Toby’s award-winning theatrical work has been produced off-Broadway and regionally, and has been featured in the New York Times and New York Magazine. Toby is in demand as a record producer for eclectic indie artists, while his arrangements and original compositions are in frequent use across the country.
Olivia Winegrath (Choreography) is a choreographer, movement artist, massage therapist, and psychotherapist in NYC and NJ. She studied Dance at Muhlenberg college as well as studying at Accademia Dell’Arte in Arezzo, Italy where she trained with traditional Italian dance company, Teriaca, and performer/choreographer Giorgio Rossi. Olivia has shown work with Site Specific Series curated by chashama NYC, Center for Performance Research, and Movement Research at Judson Church. Olivia has performed in the Alwin Nikolais Centennial Concert at Hunter College as well as at Dancspace at St. Mark’s Church in New York City. Along with Bridget Struthers, Olivia is the Co-Founder of Bridge & Olive Dance, which brings dance to new and unlikely places in NYC. IG: @bridgeolivedance
